Was Jesus tempted like us?

15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Hebrews 4:15 · King James Version
Read the verses around it (Hebrews 4:14-16)

14Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

James 1:13 · King James Version
Read the verses around it (James 1:12-15)

12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. 13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Our explanation

Yes. Jesus "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin" (Hebrews 4:15). That is why he understands us: "we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities." God himself "cannot be tempted with evil" (James 1:13), but His Son shared our nature and overcame.

A question to think about next

If Jesus had our nature, how did he never sin?
