What does "holy" mean?
2Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.
Read the verses around it (Leviticus 19:1-4)
1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. 3Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God. 4Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God.
15But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Read the verses around it (1 Peter 1:13-16)
13Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Our explanation
"Holy" means set apart, belonging to God. God told Israel: "Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy."
Peter repeats it for believers: "as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." ("Conversation" here means way of life.)
So the Holy Spirit is the Spirit that belongs to the holy God, and does His holy work. And God's people are called to be set apart too. Write a note: what in your life is set apart for God?
