Is Jesus God himself?
5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Read the verses around it (1 Timothy 2:3-6)
3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
Read the verses around it (James 1:12-15)
12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. 13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Read the verses around it (Hebrews 4:14-16)
14Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
32But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Read the verses around it (Mark 13:32-33)
32But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. 33Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
28Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
Read the verses around it (John 14:27-31)
27Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 29And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. 30Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. 31But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
Think first
Read James 1:13 and Hebrews 4:15 side by side. What does each say about being tempted?
Show the explanation
Our explanation
Paul writes: "there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." A mediator stands between two sides. Paul wrote this after Jesus had gone up to heaven, and he still calls him "the man Christ Jesus."
Compare what the Bible says about God and about Jesus. "God cannot be tempted with evil," but Jesus "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." Jesus did not know the day of his return, "neither the Son, but the Father." And he said, "my Father is greater than I."
Our understanding: Jesus is the Son of God, not God the Son. A son may be very like his father, but he is not the same person. Read these passages in their context and see how naturally they read when Jesus is the Son, sent by the one God.
